Syrian Asylum Applications

Information from IND.

Starting from June 14, 2025, the IND (Immigration and Naturalization Service) will resume deciding on Syrian asylum applications. Since December 14, 2024, there has been a decision stop for 6 months due to uncertainty about the situation in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. According to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs report on Syria, dated May 29, 2025, the situation for many Syrians is now less dangerous.

Impact on Your Asylum Application

The IND will continue processing your asylum application. To be granted asylum, you must prove that you are at risk of serious harm in Syria. This risk may apply to specific groups, such as LGBTQ+ individuals and Alawites.

No Re-assessments of Asylum Permits Yet

The IND will not yet begin re-assessing asylum permits for Syrians. The situation in Syria remains too uncertain for a re-assessment. The IND expects more information to be available in January 2026.
