Minister David van Weel (Asylum and Migration) expressed confidence that Dutch authorities are preventing asylum seekers without proper rights from entering the country. He “hopes” that no asylum seekers are currently in the Netherlands with false documents, though he couldn’t guarantee it. His comments came after a Telegraaf report revealed two Syrians in Turkey selling fake Dutch passports and residency permits to people trying to reach Europe.

Van Weel stated that he believes border security is able to intercept such documents. However, PVV’s Marina Vondeling raised concerns, pointing out that many asylum seekers enter without valid documents. Van Weel acknowledged the risks, particularly when asylum seekers refuse to cooperate in proving their country of origin, which could pose security risks.
