Gas Leak at Refugee Center in Hoofddorp, Building Evacuated

The refugee center on Planeetbaan in Hoofddorp was evacuated last night after a gas smell was detected, according to reports from nhnieuws.nl and telegraaf.nl. A spokesperson from the fire department stated that the source of the gas odor remains unclear, but there was no fire. All residents, about 450 people, were left standing outside in the cold, according to a spokesperson from the Safety Region Kennemerland.

Due to the scale of the situation and the cold weather, a large number of emergency services were on-site. They handed out emergency blankets to help keep the residents warm. The mayor was also called to the scene.
